Putting the FEST in HousingFest – community events added!
May 24, 2019
June 1, 12:30pm – HousingFest will be participating in the first annual festival at EastSide Local Eatery (located within the Eastway Crossing Shopping Center at the corner of Central Avenue and Eastway Drive). In addition to live music, and delicious food, HousingFest will be hosting an afternoon Chalk Art Competition. Calling all artists! Gift cards will be awarded to winners of first, second, and third place. Come and share your concept of “home.” Artists from Urban Ministry Center’s ArtWorks studio will be present to join the fun. Chalk art will be saved and displayed at Knight Theater on June 20th for our big show featuring Mandolin Orange!
June 8, 6:00 – 9:00pm – HousingFest Unplugged will be coming to the Charlotte Art League in NoDa! Come out to enjoy a night of live music and artwork. Visit artists’ studios, enjoy hearing your favorite local musicians, and see some of the latest artwork coming from Urban Ministry Center’s ArtWorks program. Suggested donation $10. We’ll also be collecting cleaning supplies individuals who are living in housing with no income. We invite you to bring one or more of the following: liquid laundry detergent, dish soap, multi-purpose spray cleaner, paper towels, toilet paper, or 20-gallon garbage bags.
June 20, 7:30pm – HousingFest 2019 at Knight Theater, featuring Mandolin Orange and Daughter of Swords! Tickets are available here. A portion of proceeds will support Urban Ministry Center’s housing programs for some of our community’s most vulnerable citizens – those who are experiencing long-term homelessness and disabilities. In addition to enjoying a great night of music, visit our lobby displays including the give-a-number wall of 100 Home Squares. Artworks artists and tenants in our housing programs are painting their representation of “home” on 4×4″ wooden squares. The squares are numbered 1-100 and priced by number. (For example, you can purchase square #42 for $42). If we can find a home for all 100 squares, we’ll have raised an additional $5,000 for affordable housing in Charlotte!
